Jane Doe v. Sean Combs et al
In mid-August 1993, Jane Doe, a 16-year-old from Brooklyn, New York, who had given birth a week earlier on August 10, was lured by 'Kay' to a supposed audition for a backup dancer role with Sean Combs and his affiliates. She took a bus to a transfer point in Brooklyn, where 'Kay' picked her up in a black SUV and drove her to a house near Long Island with a studio. There, Combs offered her a drink, claiming it was non-alcoholic, but it was laced with drugs (possibly Rohypnol/GHB), causing her to lose consciousness. She awoke hours later in a moving car with two unknown men, her jeans torn and bloodied, indicating a violent sexual assault that damaged her recent childbirth stitches. Dropped off near the bus stop, bystanders noted her distress, but she declined police help out of fear. She later sought medical care after confiding in a friend, suffering lasting physical and emotional trauma.
Plaintiff seeks compensatory damages exceeding lower court jurisdictional limits, punitive damages, costs and attorneys’ fees, prejudgment interest, and any other relief deemed just and proper.
Stipulation voluntarily dismissing the action without prejudice. Plaintiff's claim was brought under the NYC Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act (GMVL); the First Department held in Stein v. Rockefeller Univ. Hosp., 239 A.D.3d 424 (1st Dep't 2025), that the GMVL does not apply retroactively, and the Court of Appeals denied leave to appeal that decision on March 17, 2026 (S.S. v. Rockefeller Univ. Hosp., 2025-501), extinguishing Plaintiff's GMVL cause of action.
